Mumbai: 25-Year-Old Woman & 45-Yr-Old Auto-Rickshaw Driver Arrested For Obscene Acts Near Carter Road
Mumbai: The Khar police have arrested a woman and an auto-rickshaw driver following a complaint filed by a female constable.
About The Case
The accused have been identified as Ashfaq Sayyaid, 45, an auto-rickshaw driver residing in a chawl in Bandra West, and Vaishnavi Chavan, 25, a resident of Santacruz West. According to the FIR, on the night of June 13 at around 11:30 p.m., Constable Shahzadi Khan, 45, was patrolling near Carter Road promenade in Khar West with other police personnel when she noticed suspicious activity inside a parked auto-rickshaw.
A woman was seated in the back alongside the driver, and both were allegedly behaving obscenely and making lewd remarks towards passers-by. Their behaviour continued for some time, and when they made vulgar comments to a 27-year-old man, Constable Khan intervened and questioned them.
During preliminary inquiry, it was revealed that the two were allegedly linked to a sex racket. The police have registered a case against them under Sections 296 (obscene acts and songs) and 3(5) (general explanation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Both were taken into custody
