‘We shut IPL lights using…’: Pakistani defence minister Khawaja Asif makes another wild claim about Pakistan’s response during India-Pakistan conflict, claims…

India-Pakistan war: Pakistani defence minister Khawaja Asif, who earlier invited ridicule for making unevidenced claims about downing of Indian Rafale fighter jets during Operation Sindoor, has made another wild claim about Pakistan’s response during the recent India-Pakistan conflict, claiming that Pakistani cyber attackers shut down floodlights during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match.

‘Pakistani hackers switched off IPL lights’

“Our cyber warriors did a great job by switching off the floodlights during the IPL match,” the Pakistani minister said while speaking in the country’s parliament. Asif claimed that Pakistani cyber operatives had interfered with key Indian infrastructure, including the IPL floodlights, during the India-Pakistan conflict, but did not provide any evidence for his claims.

The minister further claimed that Pakistani cyber attackers targeted key Indian installations, including dam control systems and cricket stadiums, during the conflict.

What actually happened during the IPL 2025 match?

Meanwhile, the IPL 2025 match Asif was seemingly referring to was played between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala. The match was called off after the 11th over in the first innings, when floodlights were turned off due to incoming drone and missile attacks from Pakistan.

At first, everyone in the stadium thought it was some sort of technical fault, but later it was revealed that the lights were switch off as air raid sirens were sounded across the city due to an incoming attack from the Pakistani side. The match was called off and everyone in the stadium was safely evacuated.

Khawaja Asif’s latest faux pas

Notably, this is not the first time that Khawaja Asif has invited ridicule for making absurd claims. During an interview in early May, the Pakistani defence minister had claimed that several Indian Rafale fighter jets were downed by the Pakistani air force during Operation Sindoor.

However, when asked for evidence, Asif comically told the reporter to “look for proof on Indian social media”.

During the same interview, Asif had also infamously admitted Pakistan’s role in training and harboring terrorists, allegedly at the “behest of the West”.
