WATCH: Rapido Driver Slaps Woman Passenger For Objecting To Rash Driving, Latter Falls To Ground; Video Goes Viral
Bengaluru: A Rapido bike taxi driver allegedly slapped a woman passenger in Bengaluru’s Jayanagar after she confronted him over rash driving.
The disturbing incident, which took place three days ago, has come under public scrutiny after a video of the assault went viral on social media on June 16.
Have a look at it here:
What Exactly Happened?
According to a report by India Today, the woman objected to the driver’s dangerous riding, leading to a heated argument that turned physical. In the video, reportedly shot by a bystander, the Rapido driver is seen slapping the woman so hard that she falls to the ground. The footage also shows several onlookers watching without stepping in to intervene.
While the woman was initially hesitant to approach the authorities, police said she was eventually persuaded to file a complaint. An NCR (Non-Cognizable Report) has been registered in the case. However, police officials said they are now considering escalating it to an FIR following the public outcry and the circulation of the video.
The Jayanagar Police Station has taken up the investigation and is verifying the identities of the driver and witnesses present at the scene.
Similar Assault In Ola Auto Case
The incident has drawn comparisons to a similar case in September last year, when an Ola auto driver in Bengaluru slapped a woman after she cancelled her ride.
A viral video at the time showed the driver yelling, “Tera baap deta hai kya gas ke paise?” and trying to snatch the woman’s phone before speeding away. He was later arrested on assault charges.
