The Union Home Ministry has issued a notification for the 16th census of India. Before issuing the notification, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the preparations for the census with Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Registrar General and Census Commissioner and other senior officials yesterday on Sunday.
Census will be done in two phases
It is noteworthy that this census to be completed in 2027 is the 8th census after independence while it is the 16th census of the country in total, it has been clarified in the notification that this time the census will be done in two phases, the census will be done in snowy areas like Ladakh by October 1, 2026 and the census work will be completed in the rest of the country by March 1, 2027, according to the information, 1.3 lakh officers will be involved in this census process.
Caste census will also be done
The first phase of the census which will be conducted in two phases will be the ‘House Listing Operation’ (HLO). Under this, the census workers will collect information about each house, property and amenities. After this, the second phase will be Population Estimation (PE) in which the count of each person in each house, socio-economic, cultural and other information will be collected. The special thing is that caste census will also be done in this census.
