Mumbai Crime News: Man Rapes & Dupes Hyderabad Woman Of ₹25 Lakh After Promising Marriage On Matrimonial Site
Mumbai: A 47-year-old woman from Hyderabad has reportedly been raped and cheated out of Rs 25 lakh by a Mumbai-based man who falsely promised to marry her. The accused, identified as Shashikanth Kakkad, 42, is said to have met the woman on a matrimonial website before becoming friends with her on Facebook.
According to Begumpet police, the two began talking regularly and developed a relationship. In January 2023, Shashikanth visited Hyderabad and stayed at a luxury hotel, according to Telangana Today. During his stay, he met the woman multiple times and discussed their future together. He claimed to be from a wealthy background and assured her that he would marry her. The woman alleged that during this period, he raped her several times.
She further stated that Shashikanth convinced her and her family to invest around Rs 25 lakh in the stock market, using her sister’s bank account. After receiving the money, he returned to Mumbai and started avoiding her.
When the woman later asked him about marriage, he refused. She also claimed that he threatened to release private photos and videos if she continued to contact him or demand marriage, as reported. Based on her complaint of the victim, Begumpet police registered a case against Shashikanth for cheating, rape. Further investigation is underway by the authorities.
Andheri Woman Duped of ₹15 Lakh in Fake Work-From-Home Job Scam
A 22-year-old woman from Andheri fell victim to a work-from-home scam and lost Rs 15 lakh after being lured with the promise of a short-term online job. Instead of receiving payment for her work, she was threatened and coerced into transferring money. A case has been registered at the Amboli police station under multiple sections.
According to the police, the incident occurred on May 27 when the woman received a call from an unknown number. The caller claimed to represent a company named Infotech and offered her a data entry job that could be done remotely. The assignment was said to last just four days, and she was promised Rs 15,000 for completing the task.
