Mumbai News: Deonar Police Book 1,200 Protesters Including Ex-Corporator Ruksana Siddiqui After Govandi Road Accident Protest
The Deonar Police have registered an FIR against around 1,200 people, including a former corporator Ruksana Siddiqui, in connection with a protest that broke out after a tragic road accident on the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road near Lotus Junction around 3:45 PM, On June 14. The protestors have been booked for unlawful assembly and violating prohibitory orders.
The protest broke out after four members of a family, including three children, lost their lives in a fatal road accident on Saturday afternoon in Govandi. In response, thousands of residents to pour onto the streets in protest, creating a volatile situation. To manage the unrest, police resorted to mild force and succeeded in bringing the situation under control without any major escalation.
On Sunday, the Deonar Police filed the case against former corporator Ruksana Siddiqui along with Abid Abbas Sayyed, Ejaz alias Guddu Ahmed Israr Ahmed Qureshi, Atif Shaikh, Shabbir Shaikh, Irshad Qureshi, Hakiullah Azizullah Khan, and Mohammad Mushtaq Mohammad Yakub Shaikh alias Billa, among 1000–1200 others.
They have been booked under relevant sections for assembling unlawfully and defying prohibitory orders imposed in the area, at the time.
