Mumbai: A policeman from Badlapur, posted at the Naigaon police headquarters, lost nearly Rs 1 lakh after being duped by a scammer posing as a bank executive.

After applying online for a credit card from his bank, he received a call on January 8 from a woman claiming to be a customer care representative. She sent him an APK file on WhatsApp, asking him to install it and fill in his card details.

He later received an email confirming the card’s activation and four unauthorised transactions. A cybercrime complaint was registered, and a case was filed.
