73.25% turnout in panchayat bypoll, says Election Commission

Haryana recorded a voter turnout of 73.25% in the recently concluded panchayat byelections, held on June 15, despite soaring temperatures across the state.

Speaking to the media, Haryana State Election Commissioner Dhanpat Singh said the byelections and general elections for Panchayats, which were earlier converted into Nagarpalikas and have now reverted to panchayats, were completed smoothly. “Now, no panchayat election is pending with the State Election Commission,” he said.

He said, “Despite the heat, the percentage of byelections was 73.25%, which showed that people were interested to vote in the panchayat elections.”

The byelections were conducted for 830 seats of Panches, 74 seats of Sarpanches, 17 seats of Panchayat Samiti members and one seat of Zila Parishad member.

Regarding other scheduled polls, Dhanpat Singh informed that general elections for Kalanwali Municipality in Sirsa would be held on June 29, 2025, with counting scheduled for June 30. Today was the last date for filing nominations for that election. A total of 17 wards in Kalanwali Municipality are going to the polls.

“With this, no election for any local body is pending with the Election Commission,” Singh confirmed, indicating that the electoral process for local bodies across the state is now largely up to date.
