Cong seeks DSSSB overhaul, slams BJP over vacant posts

The Delhi Congress has raised serious concerns over the functioning of the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB), accusing the BJP-led government of failing to provide employment opportunities to youth in the capital. Senior party spokesperson and AICC member Naresh Kumar has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta demanding the dissolution of the DSSSB and the appointment of a permanent chairperson.

In his memorandum, Kumar highlighted that for the past 10 years, lakhs of posts in key government departments such as education and health have remained unfilled. “There has been no transparent or consistent recruitment process, and the government continues to play with the future of Delhi’s youth,” he alleged.

He claimed that more than 20,000 positions in just the education and health sectors are either vacant or temporarily staffed through contractual hiring. Despite written exams being conducted, including for the recruitment of Punjabi and Urdu teachers, results have not been declared even after eight months.

Kumar also lashed out at the contractual hiring system, terming it a “commission-driven model” that bypasses reservation benefits for SC, ST and OBC candidates, and denies job security to thousands of youth. He asserted that those hired on contract are not being regularised, putting their futures in jeopardy.

He demanded urgent reforms in the DSSSB, including the appointment of a permanent chairperson, the abolition of the contract system and immediate recruitment for all vacant posts based on merit and transparency.

“If these demands are ignored,” Kumar warned, “Congress will begin a large-scale agitation in collaboration with Delhi’s youth to secure justice and employment for them.”
