Body of Jalandhar bizman’s daughter-in-law found from Beas
The body of the daughter-in-law of Jalandhar industrialist Naresh Tiwari was found from the Beas near Goindwal Sahib today. Sonam Tiwari (39) had gone missing since June 14. She allegedly took the extreme step following mental health issues after a recent medical diagnosis.
This is the second body to be found from a water body at Kapurthala in a single day.
Sonam, who went to the Beas on Saturday night, along with a friend, had gone missing from the banks of the river and her family had been searching for her since then. The family also posted messages on social media regarding her disappearance, asking information about her whereabouts.
The police said the deceased had been under immense stress after having been diagnosed with a brain cyst recently. As per a statement recorded by her husband Mandeep Tiwari, she jumped into the river owing to the health stress.
The police said as per the family’s statement Sonam went to the river on Saturday evening to perform an “upaay" (cure) with a friend in view of her medical condition. Sonam asked her friend to wait near the vehicle while she went to the riverside to conduct the ‘upaay’. It was then that she jumped into the river.
When Sonam did not return, her friend started searching for her and inform Sonam’s in-laws. Upon reaching the spot, they merely found her slippers from the river bank with no trace of her. While a massive search had been launched ever since then, a team of divers found Sonam’s body from the river near Goindwal Sahib this afternoon.
Arjun Singh, SHO of the Talwandi Chaudhrian police station said, “As per the family, the woman was under acute mental stress due to a brain tumour and jumped into the river on Saturday when she went to conduct a ‘cure ceremony’ at the river on Saturday. He body was found from the river between 2 and 3 pm this afternoon. Proceedings have been initiated under Section 174 of the IPC. Post-mortem of the woman will be conducted on Tuesday morning."

She had gone to the river with her friend after which she had gone missing. When she was not found after a long search and her slippers were found near the river, we concluded that she had taken the extreme step."
