Nitin Gadkari: Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said in the program ‘Bharat Ki Udaan’ organized by Zee Bharat that by December this year, flight services from Delhi to Dehradun, Jaipur and Chandigarh will be stopped.
Citing the record expansion of highways and expressways in the country, he said that when I was a minister in Maharashtra, it used to take about 9 hours to travel from Mumbai to Pune by road. At that time, 7 flights of Jet Airways used to operate between the two cities. I had expressed that as soon as the highway is completed, the flights will be stopped. And you will be surprised to know that now you can travel from Mumbai to Pune in just two hours and the flights have been stopped.
He further said that now I am telling that by December this year, flights from Delhi to Dehradun and Delhi to Jaipur will stop. Apart from this, flights from Delhi to Chandigarh will also gradually stop. However, there will be a little connecting issue between Delhi and Chandigarh. He said that this does not mean that flights will stop but Dehradun to Hyderabad flight will run. Flights will go from Dehradun to Nagpur, to Mumbai.
Delhi to Dehradun in two hours
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that earlier it used to take 9 hours to reach Dehradun from Delhi, now it takes only 4 hours. But in the coming few months, this time will be reduced to just 2 hours. He told that the new expressway is almost ready and 36 km elevated road has been completed, which can be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon. The remaining work will also be completed by December or before that.
He explained that when one can reach Dehradun by road in just 2 hours, then why should people reach the airport an hour earlier, then reach Dehradun after boarding, takeoff and landing, which will take a total of 4 to 4.5 hours.

What did he say about road accidents?
On road accidents in the country, the Union Minister said, “5 lakh accidents happen in our country. And 1,80,000 deaths occur. And 66% of the people who die are in the age group of 18-34. Some are doctors, some are engineers. The number of people who do not die in riots, the number of people who do not die in wars, the number of people who do not die in Covid… are dying in accidents.
For this, we have spent 40 thousand crores to identify the black spots and improve them. We have increased the amount of fines so that people follow the rules regarding road safety. People cross the divider in the middle of the road by jumping, so I have instructed to increase the height of the divider. The people of our country will also have to become a little composed.
