Iran's Newly Appointed Army Chief Ali Shadmani Killed In Israeli Strikes Predecessor's Death: Reports
Tehran: Iran's newly appointed Army chief Ali Shadmani Shadmani was reportedly killed by Israel in overnight strikes on Tehran. The Israeli defence Forces (IDF) confirmed the development. Shadmani was chief of Iran’s armed forces emergency command and the most senior military figure in the regime.
According to reports, He was close to Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei. Shadmani's death came as a major to Iran as he was overlooking the country's war planning against Israel after the death of his predecessor Major General Mohammad Bagheri.
"For the second time in 5 days— the IDF has eliminated Iran’s War-Time Chief of Staff, the regime’s top military commander. Ali Shadmani, Iran’s senior-most military official and Khamenei’s closest military advisor, was killed in an IAF strike in central Tehran, following precise intelligence," the ISF said in an X post.
IDF's Tweet:
Notably, Shadmani was killed just days after Maj Gen Bagheri's death in Israeli air strikes on Friday, June 13.
On Friday, Israel launched "preemptive strikes" against Iran targeting its capital. The strikes were launched on Iran a day after the International Atomic Energy Agency for the first time in 20 years accused Tehran of not complying with its commitment to international nuclear safeguards. In the Israeli strikes on Friday, the head of the country's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, Maj Gen Hossein Salami, was also killed.
Iran also carried out retaliatory strikes on several Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa.
