Why did Haryana police nab estranged boyfriend in model Sheetal Chaudhary murder case?
Haryanvi model Sheetal Chaudhary’s boyfriend has confessed to murdering her on Tuesday. Haryana police have arrested Sunil, who is a married man with two children.
Haryana police had suspected that it was a “male friend” who murdered her inside a car and then threw her body in a canal. Chaudhary's body was recovered by the police on June 16 from a canal in Kharkhoda, Sonipat. Several stab marks were found on Sheetal’s body, found 80 kilometres away from where she lived with her sister in Panipat. Chaudhary used to work as a model making music videos. She was identified from tattoos on her hand and chest.
On June 14, Sheetal left home for a shoot at Ahar village in Panipat and did not return home. After her shoot, which ended in the night, Sunil arrived at the location to meet Sheetal and took her to his car. According to police, they had a few drinks before an argument broke out. After midnight, Sheetal made a video call to her sister Neha and said that Sunil was beating her.
Neha filed a missing person’s report with the police on Sunday morning, after she could not reach her sister’s phone which was switched off. According to reports, Neha had visited around four police stations before finally being able to register her complaint as each one would deny her saying it was not under their jurisdiction.
The police found Sunil’s car first near Panipat but Sheetal was not found. Sunil was taken to the hospital where he claimed that he met with an accident but survived by swimming. About 30 hours after the case was registered, the police recovered Sheetal’s body at Kharkhoda on Monday.
Sunil, who was arrested that evening, has now confessed to the murder and attempts to destroy evidence after police interrogation.
Neha told police that she suspected Sunil of committing the murder from the beginning since he had tried to force Sheetal to marry him despite being already married and fathering two children.
Talking to presspersons, Neha said Chaudhary had met Sunil while working at a hotel that he owned. After befriending her, he proposed to Sheetal for marriage. Sheetal later quit her job when she realised he was married and had two children. Sheetal was also married but lived separate from her husband and was a mother to a five-month-old child.
