UP Electricity Rate: Electricity rates may increase soon in Uttar Pradesh. If the Electricity Regulatory Commission approves the proposal of the Power Corporation, then the price of electricity will increase by 35-45 percent.
UP Electricity Rate: Preparations are complete to give a big shock to electricity consumers in Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation has proposed to increase the price of electricity. If the UP Electricity Regulatory Commission approves the proposal of UPPCL, then the electricity rates will be increased. This will affect both urban and rural consumers. According to the information, if this happens, then the villagers will have to pay eight rupees per unit and the city dwellers will have to pay nine rupees per unit.
Along with this, urban consumers will also have to pay a fixed charge of Rs 190 per kilowatt, till now the charge is Rs 110 per kilowatt. On the other hand, the fixed charge of Rs 90 per kilowatt for rural consumers will increase to Rs 150. Due to which electricity will become more expensive in UP. After this, a charge of Rs 12-13 per unit may have to be paid for electricity.
Proposal sent to Electricity Regulatory Commission
The loss incurred by power companies is being cited as the major reason behind the increase in electricity prices in UP. The Power Corporation has shown a loss of Rs 19,644 crore in the financial year 2025-26 as per the current electricity rates, on the basis of which a proposal has been made to increase electricity rates by an average of 30 percent. In this, the maximum increase in electricity rates is proposed for rural and urban consumers. In such a situation, prices can increase by 35-45 percent for these consumers.
Proposed rates for domestic rural consumers
- The current rate for 0 to 100 units is Rs 3.35 which is proposed to be increased to Rs 4.50
- The rate for 101 to 150 units is Rs 3.85 per unit. The proposal proposes to charge Rs 7.00 for 101 to 300 units
- The current rate for 151 to 300 units is Rs 5.00 but the proposal proposes to charge Rs 9.00 per unit for more than 300 units.
Proposed rates for urban consumers
- The current rate for 0 to 100 units is Rs 5.50 which is proposed to be increased to Rs 6.50
- The rate for 101 to 150 units is Rs 5.50 per unit. The proposal proposes to charge Rs 8.00 for 101 to 300 units
- The current rate for 151 to 300 units is Rs 6.00 but, the proposal asks to charge Rs 9.00 per unit for more than 300 units.
