Woman tied to tree in Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu’s constituency after husband fails to repay debt

A video clip has gone viral which showed a woman tied to a tree while her traumatised child looks on from a corner. The incident took place in Narayanapuram village in Andhra Pradesh. The clip evoked strong reactions from netizens who objected to the way the lady was treated and humiliated.

It has come to light that since her husband Thimmarayappa had failed to repay a debt of ₹80,000 from one Munikannappa, the latter decided to punish her. What shocked the netizens was that though villagers could be seen passing by, none came forward to help the victim.

Later, speaking to the media, the woman said that she and her children had come to Bengaluru unable to take the pressure of lenders from whom her husband had taken loans. She added that she moved away from her husband and took shelter in the city where she worked as a domestic help. Since her village is close to Karnataka border, people from the region come to work in Bengaluru.

She had to return to the village to take the school certificates of her daughters so that they could be admitted in Bengaluru school. However, as soon as she was spotted, Munikkannappa along with his associates held her and tried to collect the interest and money that her husband had borrowed, but in vain. She was then tied to the tree. She revealed that it was lenders who taken the videos to humiliate her. She said that her five-year old son too was not spared as he was also physically beaten for crying.

The local police officials said that they swung into action within 15 minutes of the incident and arrested the accused. The incident took place in Kuppam district which falls under Kuppam constituency, represented by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu who took a serious view of the incident. He has directed the police officers to take strict action against all the accused. He also advised the district officials to support the victim’s family.
