FPVs constructed by GSL for Indian Coast Guard launched

Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL), a premier Indian DPSU Shipyard, is constructing eight Fast Patrol Vessels for Indian Coast Guard. The contract was concluded on 28 Mar 22 for Rs 473 Cr. These vessels are being designed and constructed with over 60% Indigenous Content. With the launch of vessel of this class, Indian Coast Guard and GSL continue its long standing partnership and triumphant march towards self-reliance, turning ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat‘a reality.

The ship was launched and named in the ceremonious way by Smt. Kavita Harbola in the presence of Additional Director General Anil Kumar Harbola, PTM, TM, CGC (WS) to the chants of ‘ Atharva Veda’. In the glittering ceremony, the ship was named as ‘Achal’. Launching ceremony was also attended by Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay CMD, GSL, IG Bhisham Sharma, PTM, TM, COMCG (W), IG Sudhir Sahni, TM, DDG (M&M) and Senior Officials from Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Shipyard and the classification societies.

The ship has been designed and constructed in-house by Goa Shipyard Ltd to meet the specific requirements of Indian Coast Guard under stringent dual class certification of ABS and IRS. The ship has a length of 52 m, Breadth of 8 m, max speed of 27 knots, CPP-based propulsion system and displacement of 320 tons. The advanced Fast Patrol vessel will help Indian Coast Guard in protecting offshore assets and island territories. The primary role will be protection, monitoring, control and surveillance.

The project contributes to the prosperity of the Nation by developing the local ecosystem and supporting workforce, entrepreneurs & MSMEs. The project has generated substantial employment for local industry and MSMEs engaged in production activities at various factories and within Goa Shipyard Limited.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Chief Guest appreciated the efforts put in by Shipyard and various industries in ensuring that all ship building requirements of Coast Guard are fulfilled indigenously. Further, congratulating employees of GSL on achieving this critical milestone overcoming all odds, he exhorted all present to ensure that the march towards ‘Atmanirbharta’ in Defence Production is pursued in the right earnest.

The launch of “Achal“ is an exemplary testimony of our nation’s shipbuilding capability showcasing synergy and resolve of Goa Shipyard Limited and Indian Coast Guard to make indigenously designed state-of-art vessels for National security requirements.
