‘Lucky I didn’t end up like Raja Raghuvanshi’: Husband as wife runs away with her lover after marriage, says ‘had planned trip to Nainital’
A young woman ran away with her lover less than a month after getting married in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district, but what surprised many was how calmly her husband reacted. The woman, who is 20 years old, married 23-year-old Sunil on May 17. She stayed with her husband’s family for nine days, and then went to her parents’ home. But instead of returning, she ran away with her lover ten days later.
Sunil got worried and filed a missing person report with the police. Then, on Monday, the woman walked into the local police station and told the police, in front of both families, that she wants to live with her lover. The police helped both families reach a mutual agreement.
All the wedding gifts, including jewellery and household items, were returned. No one filed any legal complaints, and the matter ended there.
Sunil, the groom, said he was relieved that things didn’t turn out worse.
“I had plans to take her to Nainital for our honeymoon. But if she’s happy with someone else, that’s okay. At least I’m lucky I didn’t end up like Raja Raghuvanshi,” he said.
Sunil was referring to a shocking case from Indore, where a man named Raja Raghuvanshi was killed during his honeymoon in Meghalaya. His wife Sonam, her alleged boyfriend, and three hired killers were later arrested for planning the murder. Raja’s body was found in a gorge on June 2.
Sunil’s sister-in-law, Radha, said, “She only lived with us for eight days. After going to her parents’ house, she ran off with her lover. We just asked for our gifts back. That’s all. Now the matter is closed.”
Police officer Harendra Singh, who is in charge of the Bisauli police station, confirmed that both families settled things peacefully. “The woman clearly said she wants to stay with her lover. Everything was returned and written down. She left with him, and the groom’s family went home. No more action was needed,” he said.
This story is being talked about widely, especially after the Raja Raghuvanshi case, which shocked the country and raised big questions about trust and betrayal in relationships.
