Meghalaya Cops In Indore, Visit Sonam’s Hideout, Raja's Home; Crime Scene Reconstructed Back In Shillong

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Sonam Raghuvanshi allegedly hid after fleeing Meghalaya, and a meeting with Raja’s grieving family in Sahakar Nagar.

No solid proof yet from Sonam’s flat

East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem confirmed the police visited the suspected hideout in Indore but found no conclusive proof of Sonam’s stay. “The flat was empty. Our team is still in Indore and will remain there for a few more days to continue gathering evidence and questioning people,” he said. Sources close to the investigation still believe Sonam had taken shelter there and are working to verify this with supporting material.

Additional DCP (Crime) Rajesh Dandotiya said the Meghalaya Police had contacted the city police and were provided full cooperation. “They’re here to deepen the probe into the Raja murder case. Our team is supporting them throughout their visit.”

Crime scene reconstructed

Back in Shillong, investigators meticulously recreated the events leading up to the murder. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) traced every movement of the accused — from their arrival to the attack and their escape.

SP Syiem explained, “We began at the Mawlakhiat parking lot where the scooties were parked. Then we visited a point 3–4 km from the Weisawdong Falls parking area, where the accused first planned to attack but failed as Raja started his bike. The group later paused 200 metres from the viewpoint to take photographs, but no violence occurred there.”

Finally, at the actual viewpoint, the team confirmed Raja’s last known position. Using a Fire and Emergency Services staffer to act as Raja, police carefully recreated the scene — noting the exact location of each individual during the assault. “There were three blows — one each by Vishal alias Vicky, Anand, and Akash,” Syiem revealed.

The man who had filmed the group during their trek is also being summoned to record his statement.

Murder spot chosen randomly

Police said that during questioning, the accused confessed that Weisawdong Falls was not a pre-planned location. None of them had visited Shillong before or even heard of the site. It was selected purely by chance during their travel.

Plan to visit Dawki with Raja

Raja had reportedly developed a rapport with the accused during the trip, unaware of their motives. “They pretended they wanted to visit Dawki, a popular tourist destination,” said SP Syiem. Raja, trusting them, believed they were all headed there together.

Raja’s phone destroyed, bag taken

After the murder, Raja’s phone was deliberately damaged. “Sonam initially destroyed it, and Vishal later smashed it further,” Syiem said. The group also took Raja’s bag with them as they fled the scene.

Cops visit Raja’s family

On Tuesday night, the Meghalaya Police visited Raja’s home in Sahakar Nagar and spoke with his family members for over 30 minutes. “They asked about Raja and Sonam’s marriage, her stay at our home, and what he packed for the trip,” said Raja’s brother Vipin Raghuvanshi.

Raja’s mother, Uma, and his brothers Vipin and Sachin were present during the questioning. The visit was emotional, but the family welcomed the effort.

Family satisfied, demands justice

Despite their grief, Raja’s family expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation. “The Meghalaya Police is doing a commendable job. We are hopeful justice will be served,” said Vipin. Sachin demanded the harshest possible punishment for Sonam: “She should be jailed for life — until death. Nothing less.” Vipin added, “If I ever meet her, I’ll ask — why did you kill him? What was his fault?”
