Now, Yamunanagar’s ‘safai mitras’ to wear safety kits while working

Now, sanitation workers employed by the Yamunanagar-Jagadhri Municipal Corporation (MC) will be seen wearing safety kits while carrying out cleaning work.

The MC has started providing safety kits to its sanitation workers, keeping in mind their health and safety.

On the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Akhil Pilani, 50 sanitation workers of the MC have been given safety kits

in Yamunanagar.

Chief Sanitary Inspector (CSI) Anil Nain and Ward 16 councillor Sandeep Dhiman distributed safety kits to workers on Monday. The kits contain reflector jackets, gloves, masks and other items.

Nain said the MC was making efforts to improve the cleanliness system of the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri.

He said, alongside paying special attention to cleanliness, the MC was paying attention to the safety of its sanitation workers.

Safai mitras worked around dust and garbage all day. Therefore, it was important to pay attention to their health and safety, he added.

He said the reflector jackets would protect them from accidents, especially at night, and the masks would prevent them from breathing in dust, protecting them from respiratory diseases.

By picking up garbage with gloves, their hands would remain safe from glass, needles and other sharp objects often found in garbage, he added.

He said health check-ups of sanitation workers were being done from time to time.

He appealed to the residents of the twin cities to cooperate in making the cities clean and beautiful.
