9-yr-old boy assaulted in Sarojini Nagar market

A nine-year-old boy has been allegedly slapped, humiliated and verbally abused in public by three men in southwest Delhi’s Sarojini Nagar Market. The incident came to light after a disturbing video of the assault surfaced on social media, prompting swift action from the Delhi Police.

According to police officials, the video shows the boy —visibly distressed and crying — being held by an unclasped belt by one man while another pours water into his pants. At one point, a third man sprays liquid soap on the child’s hair while hurling abuses and poking him with his foot.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel confirmed that the boy is a Class 3 student and a native of Nepal. His mother works as a cook in the Sarojini Nagar market area. “The video shows the child being slapped, abused, and humiliated by three men. One is seen restraining him by his hands and belt, while another pours water into his pants. A third man can be seen poking the boy with his foot and using offensive language,” Goel said.

Taking cognisance of the video, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act and Section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The accused have been identified as Pankaj (35), the owner of a readymade garment stall at the market, and his two employees — Pradeep Kumar (29) and Vishal (30). All three have been arrested, the police confirmed.
