Mehr Chand Polytechnic lecturer wins gold at strengthlifting championship

In a proud moment for Jalandhar, Jaspal Singh, a lecturer at Mehr Chand Polytechnic College and resident of Janta Colony, has secured a gold medal at the 3rd North India Strengthlifting Championship 2025 held in Himachal Pradesh.

The prestigious event, organised by the Himachal Pradesh Strengthlifting Association under the aegis of the Indian Strength lifting Federation, drew top athletes from across the northern states. Competing in the fiercely contested 85kg bodyweight category, Jaspal Singh outshone his rivals by lifting a remarkable 130 kg in the inclined bench press event, earning him the top spot on the podium.

Jaspal’s journey into strength lifting began as a pursuit of personal fitness but soon transformed into a passion for competitive powerlifting. “I started lifting to stay healthy, but it turned into something much bigger,” he shared.

This is not his first taste of victory. Earlier this year in February, he claimed a gold medal at a state-level championship organised by the World Powerlifting Congress (WPC) in Malerkotla, cementing his reputation as a great lifter.

His latest achievement has not only brought recognition to Mehr Chand Polytechnic College but has also sparked inspiration among local youth to engage in fitness and sports with dedication and discipline. Jaspal’s success stands as a testament to the power of perseverance.
