In 1985, during M.G. Ramachandran’s (MGR) tenure as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, tensions simmered over Governor S.L. Khurana’s use of his authority to appoint Vice-Chancellors to State-run universities. A conflict arose in October when the Governor appointed S. Krishnaswamy as Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University.
