Mumbai News: 25-Year-Old Man Killed By Panvel-Bound Local While Crossing Tracks Near Chembur; Harbour Line Services Disrupted

A 25 -year-old man lost his life after being hit by a Panvel-bound local train while attempting to cross the railway tracks near Chembur station on Tuesday morning. The tragic incident caused widespread disruption to Harbour Line services, with suburban trains were running behind schedule by up to 20 minutes.

About The Accident

The accident occurred around 9:19 am between Tilaknagar and Chembur stations. According to railway officials, the man was struck by the speeding local and became entangled in the underframe of one of the coaches. The train came to a halt immediately, and efforts to recover the body were carried out by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the train manager, and several passengers. The train was delayed at the site for nearly 17 minutes.

Shortly after the train resumed its journey, it was again halted at Mankhurd station at approximately 9:46 am amid fears that additional remains might still be lodged underneath. A subsequent inspection by RPF personnel and station staff revealed only remnants of the victim's clothing.

The incident triggered a cascading delay across the Harbour According to railway, at least four other trains were directly affected, including services to Vashi and another Panvel local.

However, sources said that due to the cascading effect of this incident, commuters experienced delays until the afternoon. 

Railway authorities have reiterated their appeal to the public, urging commuters to avoid dangerous shortcuts across tracks and instead use foot overbridges and subways for their safety.
