G7 Summit: Canadian PM Mark Carney Jumps As Italy's Giorgia Meloni Enters Room For Bilateral Meeting; Video Goes Viral

A video of Canadian PM Mark Carney meeting Italy's Giorgia Meloni during the G7 Summit in Kananaskis has gone viral, but why? The reason is none other than his reaction on seeing Meloni enter the room. Instead of simply stepping forward and extending his hand for a formal greeting, Carney jumped next to his seat and spread his arms with a gentle smile. He left his stand at ease state and posed in attention to receive the lady.

The clip captured how the two leaders met at the G7 Summit venue in Canada. The initial seconds of their meeting showed Carney hopping and smiling as Meloni entered the room to discuss bilateral ties. They also exchanged cheek kisses, a warm social gesture in several Western countries.

Meloni confused to see Italian flag behind Carney's seat

At first, Meloni seemed confused upon seeing a Canadian flag behind her seat.

She gently asked Carney about the swap of the flags, noting the Italian flag was placed behind his seat. He told him the arrangement was symbolic to the close relations between the two nations.

"Yes, yes, Sorry sorry," she said when she realised that reason behind the switching of flags, which was reportedly even done at previous instances.

During the talk, Prime Minister Carney thanked his Italian counterpart, Meloni, for her leadership in G7 efforts to combat illicit drugs, and the leaders agreed to accelerate ongoing work to combat organized crime, transnational repression, and foreign interference, according to the official website of the PM of Canada.

Meanwhile, sharing a word about his interaction with Meloni, Carney posted on X, "Building on our talks in Rome, Giorgia Meloni and I met again at the @G7 to step up our joint fight against organized crime, illegal drugs, foreign interference, and more. Shared challenges like these cross borders, and they require a united, international response."
