There is a strong possibility that football fans could witness Cristiano Ronaldo and Son Heung-min playing for the same team, with Al Nassr FC emerging as one of three Saudi Pro League (RSL) clubs showing serious interest in signing the Tottenham captain this summer.

According to reports, Saudi clubs Al-Ahli, Al-Qadsiah, and Al-Nassr are seriously interested in signing the 32-year-old South Korean attacker. All three teams are reportedly willing to spend around €40 million (£34 million) to bring the Tottenham captain on board. Son recently led Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years, lifting the Europa League title after defeating Manchester United in the final.

If he reaches an agreement with either of the three, Son Heung-min could earn around €30 million [£25.6m] per season, TalkSport said in a report. His current salary at the London club is said to be around  €11.65 million per season.

However, the report added that Tottenham has yet to receive an official offer from any of the three Asian clubs. Given the legendary status Son enjoys at the club, Spurs are unlikely to pressure their captain into accepting any deal unless he is fully certain, reports said. No amount of money that the Saudi teams could unload before the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is likely to change that.

Among the reasons Saudi Arabia is pushing its clubs to sign Son is the ambition to break into South Korean broadcasting, leveraging the influence of the national team captain. Decision-makers believe that Korean fans would eagerly tune in to watch "Sonny" in action, potentially allowing the RSL to secure a lucrative TV rights deal.

It needs to be noted that Spurs are actively scouting for a left-winger ahead of the new season. Mathys Tel has made his move from Bayern Munich permanent and the arrival of yet another player could see the veteran forward lose his starting position under new gaffer Thomas Frank who got no emotional attachments with the Asian superstar. While Son can see what happens before making a decision in January, pundits are not ruling out the possibility of him leaving the club towards the end of the summer transfer window.

The TalkSport report added that, Son Heung-min is contractually obliged to play against Newcastle United on August 3 in his home country as part of Tottenham’s pre-season tour. If his future becomes clearer by then, he would still have time to accept an offer from one of the three Saudi clubs.

Al Ahli are aiming to make the former Bayer Leverkusen star their marquee signing, believing he could form a dynamic partnership with Galeno, who joined from Porto in January.

Meanwhile, Al Nassr are looking to boost their attacking firepower by pairing Son with Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, and Jhon Duran. Khobar-based Al Qadsiah finished the 2024–25 RSL season in fourth place, behind Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal, and Al-Nassr. Their current squad features several high-profile names, including Nacho, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Ezequiel Fernandez. Meanwhile, several clubs from Turkey and the United States are also keeping a close eye on Son’s situation, and a return to Bayer Leverkusen has not been ruled out either.
