Four arrested for looting commuters in Panipat
With the arrest of four accused, the police have busted a gang involved in looting mobile phones and cash from commuters after assaulting them during the night hour. The gang members reportedly looted commuters to satiate their drug needs. The police claimed to have solved six cases of looting and recovered nine mobile phones and a motorcycle from the accused.
In press conference here on Wednesday, Satish Vats, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Headquarter, said under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhupender Singh, a team led by Inspector Vijay, in-charge, CIA-3 nabbed four members’ of the gang on Tuesday night.
Snatching cases solved
1. On the night of May 18, two mobile phones were snatched from a youth identified as Vikas after assaulting him in Arjun Nagar.
2. On May 18, a mobile phone was snatched from Anil of RK Puram Colony near the RTO office after attacking him.
3. On June 13, Rajesh of Hari Nagar was stopped near the Sector 6 flyover and his mobile phone was snatched.
4. On May 18, mobile phone of Ram Pratap of Kaccha Camp was snatched after assaulting him near the Sector 6 flyover.
5. On the night of May 6, a mobile phone and Rs 6,500 in cash were snatched from Akshay of Gangaram Colony after assaulting him near Manohar Lal Park.
6. On the night of May 24, three mobile phones and Rs 700 were snatched from three youths near Kabadi Bridge.
The accused have been identified as Abhishek, alias Baba, and Jiwan alias Pradhan, both residents of Harinagar, and Manpreet, alias Hanny and Nitin, alias Bhoot, both residents of Saini Colony in the city.
The DSP said the CIA-3 team received a tip-off on Tuesday evening that four suspicious persons were roaming on a Splendor motorcycle near Power House on the Chautala road.
The police team immediately raided the spot and took all four youth into custody and interrogated them. During preliminary interrogation, the accused disclosed their identity as Abhishek, Jiwan, Manpreet and Nitin and also revealed their involvement in a snatching incidents. The accused told the police that they looted two mobile phones after assaulting a pedestrian in Arjun Nagar on May 18 night. A case was registered at the old industrial police station on the complaint of Vikas of New Rampura Colony in this connection.
The accused also disclosed during interrogation that they were involved in five more robberies regarding which cases were registered at police stations of the areas where crimes were committed, the DSP said. Vats said the accused revealed that they were hooked to drugs. He said to buy drugs, the accused robbed people to earn a fast buck. All four accused were produced before a court which sent them to one-day police custody.
