Drive on to curb narcotic trade in Rohtak
A concerted campaign is being run by the police to curb the narcotic trade in the district. Rohtak Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dharmender Singh said strict action was being taken to check smuggling and consumption of drugs in the district.
Forty-two cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in the district during the first five months of 2025, in which 64 persons were arrested along with seizure of drugs,” the DC said in a statement here today.
He pointed out that during the said period, 10 cases of commercial recovery were registered under the Act and 22 persons arrested.
Drugs seized during the drive include 0.717 grams of opium, 7 kg of 987 grams of hashish, more than 987 kg of poppy husk, 0.195 grams of heroin and more than 13 kg of ganja.
The DC instructed all Sub-Divisional Officers (Civil) to organise meetings of teachers, ASHA and Anganwadi workers to identify persons involved in the sale and purchase of drugs in their respective areas.
He has also directed Civil Surgeon to inspect all de-addiction centres in the district along with senior officials of the district administration to find out whether basic facilities were being provided at these health facilities.
“The Civil Surgeon has also been asked to take action against any de-addiction centre found operating illegally. He will also run a de-addiction campaign to keep local youths away from drugs,” the DC said. Dharmender Singh has instructed the Secretary of the District Red Cross Society to restart society’s de-addiction centre and involve NGOs in its functioning.
The District Drug Control Officer has been told to conduct surprise inspections of all medicine stores from time to time and take legal action as per rules and cancel licence of shop(s) at which any banned medicines are found.
“The District Education Officer has been directed to run awareness campaigns at all government and private schools to apprise students about ill-effects of drugs,” the DC added.
