Kurukshetra University committed to zero tolerance for ragging: Registrar

A meeting of the anti-ragging committee of Kurukshetra University (KU), constituted by Vice-Chancellor Som Nath Sachdeva, was held on Wednesday at the committee room of the university under the chairmanship of Registrar Virender Pal.

The committee deliberated on strategies to curb ragging in the university, and its affiliated colleges.

Pal announced the formation of a dedicated cell in this regard at the university, and said KU had already set up a committee to implement preventive measures, well before the session began.

Dr Pal stated that incidents of ragging or harassment, particularly against female students, would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

During the meeting, the committee also reviewed University Grants Commission guidelines related to anti-ragging initiatives.

The Registrar said ample measures would be taken to prevent the entry of unauthorised individuals to the campus during the initial days of the session.

Deputy Director (Public Relations) Jimmy Sharma said anti-ragging posters and hoardings would be displayed prominently across the campus, and a documentary film based on real-life incidents of ragging would be screened across departments and affiliated colleges to further spread awareness.

Key anti-ragging contact information — including the UGC toll-free number and email ID, and the contact details of university Anti-Ragging Committee members — would be displayed on banners across the campus and made available on the university website, he added.

Dinesh Kumar, Dean (Academic Affairs); AR Chaudhri, Dean (Students’ Welfare); Brajesh Sawhney, Dean (Colleges); Jasbir Dhanda, Chief Warden (Boys’ Hostels); Kusum Lata Chief Warden (Girls’ Hostels); Rita, Principal-IIHS; Anita Dua, Principal-ITTR; and Maha Singh Poonia, Director (IMC&MT and Public Relations) were among those present at the event.
