Yamunanagar police slap ₹2.26-cr fine on 74 vehicles for illegal mining
In a major crackdown on illegal mining and associated activities, the Yamunanagar district police have imposed fines totaling Rs 2.26 crore on 74 vehicles found involved in the illegal transportation of mining minerals between May 26 and June 15.
Under the guidance of Inspector General of Police, Ambala Range, Pankaj Nain, the special drive led by Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Bhoria also focused on curbing the sale of illicit liquor and tracking suspicious drivers and traffic violators.
According to police data, five cases were registered against the mining mafia, and 30 tippers, 40 tractor-trolleys, and four earth-moving machines were seized during the operation. These vehicles were allegedly used in unauthorised mining operations and the owners were fined Rs 2.26 crore in total.
“The teams have acted firmly against illegal mining and other unlawful activities,” said SP Bhoria, adding that action was taken as part of a larger effort to maintain law and order in the district.
The police also registered 12 cases related to the illegal sale of liquor and arrested 11 persons and recovered 287 bottles of country-made liquor from their possession.
The drive also led to widespread enforcement of traffic laws. As many as 301 challans were issued for vehicles without number plates, 115 for drunken driving, 55 for using black films, eight for bursting crackers from bullet motorcycles and two for illegal use of red/blue beacons.
IG Pankaj Nain said the drive would continue in the coming weeks. “This action will continue in future as well. The aim of the police is to maintain peace and security in the area, and for this the cooperation of the general public is necessary,” he said, urging citizens to report illegal activities and anti-social elements promptly.
