Gangster injured in encounter after firing at cops, SHO also hurt

Tarvinder Kumar, Station House Officer, City-2 Police Station, Khanna, and gangster Gagandeep Singh, alias Ravan, suffered bullet injuries during an encounter at Bhattian village. The accused opened fire at police officials, when he was taken to a site to recover the illegal weapons previously used by him.

Khanna SSP Jyoti Yadav, in a statement issued, stated that the police had recently arrested five accused, including the injured miscreant, for a firing case and illegal weapons were recovered from them. The arrested accused were identified as Gagandeep Singh, alias Ravan, of Lalton Kalan village, who was injured in the encounter; Amardesh Singh Gary of the same village; Prabhjot Singh of Randhawa village in Fatehgarh Sahib; Pawandeep Singh of Kokri Kalan village in Moga; and Gurpreet Singh of Dalla village in the same district.

SSP Yadav revealed that during investigation, accused Gagandeep and Amardesh revealed that they could help the police in recovering the pistol used in the crime. Acting on this information, SHO Tarvinder Kumar, along with a police party took the accused to the spot he had mentioned near the railway line at Bhattian village in Khanna. On reaching the location, Gagandeep began to dig near the roots of a tree to recover the pistol. He was facing away from the police team, when he suddenly took out a pistol and fired at the officials with the intention to kill and escape from custody. Before he could fire

again, SHO Tarvinder, in order to protect the lives of his teammates, fired back using his official pistol, hitting the accused in his leg. The injured accused and SHO were

immediately taken to Khanna Civil Hospital for treatment and a .32 bore pistol was recovered from the spot. Based on Tarvinder’s statement, a separate case was registered against accused Gagandeep.
