Residents demand immediate recarpeting of Jandali Road
The dilapidated condition of Jandali Road has rendered the railway underbridge and Jandali Bridge almost out of reach for commuters travelling between this town and the localities situated on its southern end.
While visitors coming from Malerkotla used to enter the region from the T-point on the Malerkotla-Ludhiana highway, they have to travel extra miles to enter the town from Pohir side as a span of about 3 km on Jandali road has a large number of potholes.
Executive Engineer, PWD, Malerkotla, Parneet Kaur said that the process for the recarpeting of the said road had already been started. As the road falls under the jurisdiction of the Market Committee, Ahmedgarh, the official process was to be started by the Mandikaran Board Department, added Kaur.
Residents alleged that Jandali Road connecting Ludhiana-Malerkotla highway with the Jandali Bridge had been in this worse condition for years. Those living in Old Mandi area of Ahmedgarh, employees of Shreyans Paper Mill and residents of Jandali Kalan, Jandali Khurad, Rohira, Kup, Jitwal, Baurhani Kalan, Baurhai Khurad, Jhuner and Begowal were among the worst affected due to the bad condition of the road.
While students of about 12 villages use the road for reaching their educational institutes, Government Primary School, Jandali Khurad, Government High School, Jandali Khurad and Government Elementary School, Jandali Kalan, are situated along the potholed portions of the road.
Residents have urged the authorities to get the road recarpeted without further delay to prevent inconvenience to commuters and probable mishaps, which could take place due to the uneven surface of the road.
Justifying the demand raised by the residents, legislator Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra said the authorities in the PWD Department had been asked to expedite the process and start the recarpeting work without further delay.
