Juvenile Home inmate killed in fight over bathing slot

An inmate of a juvenile home in north Delhi’s Majnu Ka Tila was killed following a violent altercation with fellow inmates over using the washroom on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place around 9.15 am at the Special Home for Boys (OHB-A) located on Magazine Road. According to the police, a scuffle broke out between the victim and two other juveniles in the bathing zone, which quickly escalated into a physical assault.

The victim, who had been detained in an attempted murder case registered at the Hauz Khas police station, sustained critical injuries in the attack and was rushed to Hindu Rao Hospital. He was declared brought dead at 9.46 am, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia.

One of the two accused involved in the attack was booked under Sections 302 (Punishment for murder) and 34 (joint liability) of the IPC by the Mundka police and the other, also an undertrial, was booked in an attempted murder case. The police are verifying the age of the victim and the two accused.

“A case under Section 103(1) (punishment for murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at the Timarpur police station,” Banthia added.

The body of the deceased has been preserved at the hospital mortuary for postmortem examination. Meanwhile, a judicial inquiry under Section 196 of the BNSS (inquiry by a magistrate into the cause of death) has been initiated. The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) concerned and the family of the deceased have been informed.
