QS World University Rankings 2026: IIT Delhi Leads Indian Institutions, Three In Global Top 200; Check Top 10 Universities List

The QS World University Rankings 2026, published today, June 19, ranked IIT Delhi as the highest Indian university in the world. It has reached the position of 123 internationally with a total score of 65.5 and is the highest-ranked university from India in this year's rankings.

IIT Bombay was close behind at 129th place with a score of 64.8, followed by IIT Madras at 180th place with a score of 58.4. These three are the only Indian universities that have made it to the world's top 200 universities this year.

Beyond the top 200, IIT Kharagpur was ranked 215th with a total score of 54.5, and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore was at 219th, down slightly from last year's 211th ranking at 54.2 score.

Other Indian institutions included in the rankings are Delhi University, which retained its 328th rank from last year, and Anna University, which dropped by a large margin from 383rd to 465th in the global ranking.

Internationally, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) still leads the way for the 14th year in a row. This is followed by Imperial College London, Stanford University, the University of Oxford, and Harvard University, which complete the top five internationally.

In this year's QS rankings, over 1,500 universities from more than 100 nations were evaluated, with a new measure added for the first time—International Student Diversity (ISD). Although indirectly not affecting scores, the ISD measure is meant to identify institutions that have a wider range of more diverse international students, placing value on the value of a learning experience that is inclusive worldwide.
