Karnataka Govt Proposes Increased Housing Scheme Quota For Muslim Community

In a significant policy move, the state government is set to consider increasing the reservation quota for the Muslim community under various housing schemes. The proposal, which will be tabled in today's Cabinet meeting, aims to enhance minority representation in state-run housing initiatives.

According to sources, Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan is spearheading the move, advocating for a rise in the minority reservation from the current 10% to 15%. If approved, the decision is expected to impact housing schemes implemented across both urban and rural areas of the state.

This development follows the government’s recent extension of quota benefits for minorities in contract allocations.

Presently, 10% of the total housing scheme beneficiaries are reserved for minorities. The proposed hike would allocate a larger share of housing units to the community, potentially benefiting thousands of low-income Muslim families.

A final decision on the proposal is anticipated following discussions in today’s Cabinet meeting.

Where Is Social Justice, Asks Karnataka BJP

Earlier, Karnataka BJP taking to X said, "Karnataka’s Minority Welfare Minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan is considering a hike in Muslim reservation to 10%—a blatant violation of Supreme Court rulings that have repeatedly stated reservation cannot be based on religion! Previously, Muslims in Karnataka were given 4% under 2B category, but we scrapped this unconstitutional quota. Now, one Farooq Junaid has demanded it not only be restored but increased to 10%!"

"Where is social justice now? @RahulGandhi, will Congress snatch reservation meant for SCs & STs to fulfill its appeasement politics? Mr. Scam CM @siddaramaiah, is Congress' idea of social justice taking away opportunities from the most deprived to favor your vote bank?" it said.
