SGPC urges Centre to ensure safety of gurdwaras, saroops in Iran, Israel
Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) has urged the Central Government to take immediate measures for safeguarding the gurdwaras and saroops of Guru Granth Sahib in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami in a statement issued here on Thursday said that the Sri Guru Granth Sahib holds highest reverence for the Sikh community and it was the duty of the Central Government to ensure the safety of the holy scripture and its safe return to India.
“Because of the current war-like situation between Iran and Israel, the Central Government should use its diplomatic channels and the international platforms to talk to the two countries for safety of gurdwaras and sacred saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib,” said Dhami.
He urged the community members in Iran and Israel to engage with the local authorities there for help. He said the SGPC was keeping a close eye on the developments and hoped that the Indian government takes appropriate measures in this connection.
