MC launches cleanliness drive to educate local traders, shopkeepers
A team from the Yamunanagar-Jagadhri Municipal Corporation (YJMC) conducted a drive to raise awareness among shopkeepers about cleanliness in Yamunanagar.
Team members of the YJMC, along with representatives from the Sneh Seva Trust, went door to door to shops located on Railway Road and Jagadhri Workshop Road in Yamunanagar, educating shopkeepers on the importance of maintaining cleanliness.
Shopkeepers were urged to keep blue and green dustbins to separate dry and wet waste respectively. Those who already maintained separate dustbins were appreciated by the team.
According to information, under the guidance of Mayor Suman Bahamani and Municipal Commissioner Akhil Pilani, the YJMC has been conducting a Swachhta Pakhwada (Cleanliness Fortnight) from June 1 to 21.
As part of the drive, Municipal Corporation’s IEC Expert Pooja Agarwal, national president of Sneh Seva Trust Mamta Sen and sanitation inspectors from the YJMC visited Railway Road.
The team began their awareness campaign from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk to Mahavir Chowk, speaking to shopkeepers about various cleanliness practices. Subsequently, they continued door-to-door awareness activities from Maharana Pratap Chowk to ITI.
“Shopkeepers were made aware about keeping their surroundings clean, keeping separate dustbins for dry and wet waste and not using banned polythene,” said IEC expert Pooja Agarwal.
She stated that the YJMC team, along with members of the social organisation, explained to the public the importance of cleanliness.
