Monsoon advances, rain likely over 6 days
Sounding a major relief from the prevailing searing hot weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said the monsoon has advanced over Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana with more rain likely to lash the city and the region for the next six days beginning Friday.
“Favourable conditions for advance of the southwest monsoon over parts of Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana have emerged with an increase in rainfall activity over the city and the region from June 20 to 25,” the weathermen said.

Sharing the current status of monsoon, they said the southwest monsoon further advanced over most parts of Bihar and some more parts of east Uttar Pradesh today.
The weathermen said the conditions were becoming favourable for further advancement of the southwest monsoon over some parts of Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana during the next four to five days. Meanwhile, the day and night temperatures continued to soar during the past 24 hours in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, but hovered below the 40 degrees Celsius mark. Bathinda in Punjab and Sirsa in Haryana remained the hottest towns with 40 and 39.8 degree Celsius day temperature, respectively.

The MeT Department has predicted gradual decrease in the maximum temperature for the next five days in the tricity region till next Tuesday.
It said the maximum temperatures in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula will remain between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius and minimum between 26 and 27 degrees Celsius with possibility of rain coupled with cloudy sky and thunderstorm till June 24.
Panchkula coolest in tricity
Panchkula continued to remain the coolest place in the tricity region on Thursday, registering the lowest maximum temperature. Chandigarh remained hottest in tricity.
