Briefs: 3 held for firing at bizman; gangster link suspected

Bathinda: The police have arrested three persons for allegedly firing at a youth near Thermal Colony gate number 2 on Monday. The victim, Lalit Chhabra, was shot while having tea at a roadside stall. Sources said the police have recovered a weapon and the motorcycle used in the crime. The accused reportedly belonged to the Majha region, and might have links with a gangster. Bathinda SSP Amneeet Kondal said three persons had been arrested and their links were being investigated. TNS

Revenue official dies by suicide, three booked

Muktsar: A revenue official (kanungo), Jaswinder Singh, aged about 35, allegedly died by suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Midway Colony here on Wednesday. A suicide note was found at the spot. Jaswinder has blamed three persons from Kotkapura of repeatedly harassing him over money, leading to mental stress. Acting on the complaint of the deceased’s wife, the Sadar police have booked Imrozpreet Singh, Rajwinder Singh and Pala. They are on the run. TNS

Project to rehabilitate drug addicts launched in Fazilka

Fazilka: The Fazilka police and the administration on Thursday launched “Project Aas" (project hope) from the rural Arniwala sub-tehsil. “The project is aimed at connecting with drug-affected individuals, motivating them to undergo treatment and reintegrating them into the mainstream society," said Fazilka Senior Superintendent of Police Gurmit Singh. oc
