Kapurthala jeweller theft case solved, culprits held from HP

The Kapurthala police arrested two persons in a case of theft at Sarafa Bazaar, Kapurthala.

SSP Gaurav Toora stated that four suspects were arrested from different locations and Rs 8 lakh, 3 kg of silver, 4.5 tola gold jewellery, and a Hyundai car (PB 05 AD 6468) which was used in crime were recovered from their posession.

Those arrested have been identified as prime accused Joni, alias Raju, of Khatik Mandi, Cantonment Police Station, Ferozepur, who was taken into custody from Mandi, Himachal, and Amandeep Singh (who was arrested from Kangra, on June 17). The police also arrested two more men to whom the stolen gold had been sold. They have been identified as Parampal Singh, alias Parma, of Mallanwala in Ferozepur and Rahul Sharma, resident of Mallanwala in Ferozepur.

During a press conference at the police lines, the SSP said the theft occurred on June 8 at Ajay Kumar’s shop located at Lahori Gate, Kapurthala. In the wee hours at 4.10 am, 34 unidentified men with their faces covered with cloth, carried out the theft.

They broke the shop’s shutter and took away the huge iron safe on the premises. As per Ajay’s statement, the safe had many valuable jewellery and other items. A case had been registered at the Kapurthala city police station.

The SSP said a team was formed under the supervision of SP Prabhjot Singh Virk, DSP Deepakarn Singh, DSP (Investigation) Parminder Singh, Inspector Bikramjit Singh (City Police Station), Inspector Jarnail Singh (CIA Incharge), and ASI Charanjit Singh. The team arrested the suspects.

The SSP said using technical cell support and human intelligence, the primary accused, Joni was arrested from Mandi on June 15 and based on his interrogation, Amandeep was also arrested on June 17 from Kangra. The car used in the theft was also recovered.

The investigation revealed that the accused sold the stolen gold and silver to jewellers Dharmapal and Rahul Sharma in Ferozepur, after which both were also apprehended and the stolen items were recovered. The police also said three more individuals have been named in the investigation.

Joni already has 20 theft cases registered against him in different districts.

The SSP said suspects will be presented in court and further interrogation is expected to uncover additional information.
