Close shave for cops as car rams barricade

Police officers had a narrow escape as a speeding car tried to break through a checkpoint on Friday night. The driver was fleeing after hitting a vehicle.

The incident took place on the Sector 20/21 road where Sub-Inspector Didar Singh (in charge of Sector 21 police post), ASI Sandeep and SPOs Vinod and Surjit Singh were present. They received information that a white car, which had collided with another vehicle, was approaching the area at high speed.

Despite repeated signals by the police to stop, the driver rammed the car into the barricade. However, the alert officers saved themselves and managed to stop the vehicle with much difficulty.

The smell of alcohol was evident on the driver’s breath. He identified himself as Pravesh of Peer Muchalla. The co-passenger was identified himself as Manjeet of Karmgarh village in Jind district.

An FIR has been registered against them under Sections 281, 125, 54, 132 and 221 of the BNS. Both were produced before the court today and remanded in judicial custody.
