Municipal Corporation demolishes illegal structures in Rohtak

A special cleaning drive was launched on Saturday by teams of the Rohtak Municipal Corporation (MC) in several localities of the city, including Chhotu Ram Chowk, Gohana Adda to Chhotu Ram Chowk, Jind Road and Gohana Road, to clean drains.

During the drive, it was commonly observed that ramps, stairs and other permanent structures had been constructed over drains, hindering the cleaning work and preventing full clearance.

“A drive to clean city drains is being carried out consistently and under regular monitoring. Notices have been issued to remove encroachments on drains, as these structures obstruct cleaning operations,” said Anand Sharma, MC Commissioner.

He further said daily reports on drain cleaning progress were being reviewed. “So far, approximately 35 per cent to 40 per cent of the work has been completed. A meeting was held today with the technical wing, where officials were instructed to ensure complete cleaning of drains so that the public does not face any inconvenience, especially during the monsoon season,” Sharma said. Besides, immediate removal of sludge and debris extracted from drains was also being ensured, he said.

“Encroachments are a major reason behind waterlogging during rains. We urge all individuals, who have encroached upon drains in the Rohtak municipal area, to remove encroachments voluntarily. If not done, the MC will remove illegal structures, which may result in further loss or damage to properties,” he said.
