Cleaning of drains reviewed in Ambala

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ajay Singh Tomer inspected the ongoing cleaning work of various drains to check the preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season. He issued directions to officials to ensure smooth flow of the rainwater in drains and remove blockages.

During inspection, the DC reviewed the cleanliness of the Gudgudia drain in the area under the Cantonment Board. He directed officials of Irrigation Department to get the area under its jurisdiction cleaned with better coordination so that there was no obstruction in drainage of rainwater.

Similarly, he also reviewed cleaning of the drain passing near the Old Railway Hospital. He gave necessary instructions to Railway officials regarding cleaning of the drain.

While inspecting drain near Ghasitpur and Shahpur Tangri, he told officials to improve cleanliness under the railway bridge and remove weeds and bushes so that there was no obstruction in flow of the rainwater.

The DC also checked drains near Yadav Dharamshala. While reviewing the work in front of Dr BR Ambedkar Park, he asked officials to raise the height of the pipeline here so that the cleaning work could be done smoothly. Later, he inspected cleaning work of drains passing near Hathikhana Temple, Nanhera and the Kuldeep Nagar area and directed the department concerned to remove water hyacinth with machines.

The DC said “In view of the upcoming monsoon season, the ongoing cleanliness work of drains was checked today. Last week, Cabinet Minister Anil Vij had inspected drains, pump houses and other important locations and issued directions to improve cleanliness. During inspection today, all those locations have been checked to find whether instructions given have been complied with or not. While majority of cleanliness work has been completed, directions have been issued to officials to complete the pending work. No negligence in work will be tolerated and appropriate action will be taken against officials concerned for lapses.”

“All our preparations for the monsoon season have finished. The process of starting a hotline connection at Babyal Pump House is in progress. The repair work of pumps has also been completed. We are hopeful that there will be no flood-like situations this year,” the DC said.

Ambala Cantonment Board Chief Executive Officer Rahul Anand Sharma, Ambala Cantt SDM Vinesh Kumar, Ambala Municipal Council Executive Officer Sadar Devender Narwal, Executive Engineer PWD (B&R) Ritesh Aggarwal and DRO Vikas Kumar accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during inspection.
