International Yoga Day: Echoes of ‘Yoga yukt, nasha mukt Haryana’ in Sirsa district

Sirsa district celebrated the 11th International Yoga Day with great zeal on Saturday.

A district-level event was held at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium under the joint aegis of the Haryana Yoga Commission and the AYUSH Department.

Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sharma was the chief guest, while Superintendent of Police Mayank Gupta was the special guest at the event. The programme began with a traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp by District Council CEO Subhash Chandra. On this occasion, speeches by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini were broadcast live.

Themed “Yoga for one earth, one health”, the event witnessed the participation of several administrative officials, employees, students, sportspersons, and area residents, who actively performed asanas in the yoga sessions.

Participants were encouraged to adopt a healthy lifestyle and administered a pledge to stay away from drugs, echoing the message of “Yoga yukt, nasha mukt Haryana”.

The DC urged people to make yoga a part of their daily routine, stating that yoga helped inculcate discipline, health, and balance into life.

Similar yoga events were organised at the block level across the district, he added, stating that these, too, witnessed the enthusiastic participation of several area residents.

The SP said yoga was not just physical exercise but an art of living. Performing yoga regularly strengthened both body and mind, he added.

He encouraged youngsters to engage in yoga and sports to stay away from addictions.

At Chaudhary Devi Lal University here, the day was marked by an event at the multipurpose hall, where Vice-Chancellor Vijay Kumar addressed the gathering, and spoke about the importance of yoga in maintaining a healthy and stress-free life.

In Kharian village, an event was organised at the local gymnasium by the gram panchayat and Shri Ganesh Manav Seva Sansthan.

Sarpanch Maya Devi, along with villagers, performed various yoga postures and breathing exercises.

The event aimed to inspire people to follow the mantra “Do yoga, stay healthy.”

In Dabwali, SDM Arpit Sangal led the celebrations and highlighted how yoga improved health and discipline.

In Ellenabad, SDM Paras Bhargoria emphasised the importance of performing yoga for at least half an hour daily. In Kalanwali, SDM Mohit Kumar explained how yoga connected the body, mind, and soul and helped in achieving mental peace.

In Baragudha, City Magistrate Yash Malik said yoga made the body flexible, strong, and free of diseases.

At Nathusari Chopta, Tehsildar Ajay Kumar spoke on how yoga helped counter the ill effects of fast-paced and stressful lifestyles.

In Rania, Tehsildar Shubham Sharma said that yoga not only boosted physical health but also strengthened a person mentally and spiritually.
