In a significant move to strengthen civic infrastructure and address the pressing issue of water scarcity, Member of Parliament from Hoshiarpur, Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal, on Thursday inaugurated the work on a newly sanctioned tube well in Daddal Mohalla, Phagwara.
The project, sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 20 lakh, is expected to provide much-needed relief to thousands of residents who have been grappling with an acute shortage of drinking water for several months.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key local leaders and officials, including Phagwara Constituency In-charge Joginder Singh Mann, Aam Aadmi Party’s District President Sardar Sarabjit Singh Lubana, Phagwara Mayor Shri Rampal Uppal, Municipal Commissioner Dr Akshita Gupta (IAS), SDO Sewerage Board Rajwinder Singh Gill, and Junior Engineer Amit Kumar.
Addressing the gathering, Joginder Singh Mann highlighted the severe water crisis faced by densely populated localities such as Daddal Mohalla, Sandhura Devi, Poorbiya Mohalla, and surrounding areas. “Residents have long suffered due to inadequate water supply. The issue was repeatedly brought to the notice of the authorities, and I am pleased to announce that a sustainable and long-term solution has now been initiated,” he said.

In addition to the one in Daddal Mohalla, new tube wells will be installed in Sandhura Devi, Gujaratis Mohalla, and the Old Tehsil area. The cumulative cost of these four projects is estimated to be Rs 67 lakh, with implementation planned in a phased but time-bound manner to ensure quick relief.

Dr Chabbewal also assured that funds under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) would be utilized to fast-track development works deemed urgent by the local population.
