Phagwara to host Daan Utsav on June 25–26 to promote charity
In a bid to foster a culture of giving, empathy, and environmental sustainability, the Municipal Corporation of Phagwara has announced the celebration of ‘Daan Utsav’ on June 25 and 26, 2025. The two-day initiative aims to encourage residents to donate usable yet unused items to benefit underprivileged members of the community.
As part of the event, the civic body has made arrangements for citizens to drop off items such as clothes, textbooks, toys, shoes and household goods at designated collection points. These include the Municipal Corporation Office, the RRR (Reduce-Reuse-Recycle) Centre at Hakupura, and the Blood Bank located in Hargobind Nagar. The collection points will be operational from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm on both days.
Municipal Corporation Phagwara Commissioner Dr Akshita Gupta stated that the initiative is “a step towards building a compassionate and responsible society,” adding that “Daan Utsav is not merely an event, but a movement that highlights the importance of sharing resources and reducing waste.”
In line with the goals of environmental responsibility, the Municipal Corporation has also operationalized RRR Centres at Hakupura and Hadiabad. These centres will continue to remain open during the event and will serve as hubs where donated items are sorted and made available free of cost to individuals in need. Only items in usable condition will be accepted and displayed for redistribution.
The concept, officials explained, is designed not only to support the underprivileged but also to promote the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle, thereby reducing the burden on landfills and encouraging sustainable consumption.
The Municipal Corporation is actively reaching out to resident welfare associations, educational institutions, NGOs, and local businesses to mobilise participation. Local schools and colleges have been requested to spread the message among students and parents, emphasizing the values of social responsibility and community service.
Speaking about the initiative, a senior official remarked, “Every household has items that are in good condition but are no longer used. Instead of discarding them, donating these items can bring real value to someone else’s life.”
‘Daan Utsav’ is part of a broader civic initiative to strengthen community ties, instil values of empathy and kindness, and reduce resource wastage. The Municipal Corporation hopes that through such events, citizens will develop a deeper sense of shared responsibility toward the less fortunate and the environment.
As Phagwara prepares for this generous undertaking, the administration urges all residents to participate wholeheartedly and help turn this event into a lasting movement for social good.
