Residents embrace wellness on International Yoga Day
The city embraced the spirit of wellness and unity as residents from all walks of life came together to celebrate International Day of Yoga.
From school grounds and parks to industrial campuses and community centres, yoga sessions echoed across the city early Saturday morning, promoting health, harmony and mindfulness among residents.
Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond asked people to embrace yoga as an essential part of their daily lives, encouraging regular practice for a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
Addressing a gathering at an event organised at Shri Ram Mandir in Khanna, Sond said yoga could play a significant role in keeping individuals healthy and fit.
A district-level function was organised by the District Administration and Directorate of Ayurveda, Punjab, at Dr Ambedkar Bhawan. The event featured demonstrations of various yoga asanas, breathing techniques and mindfulness practices, all aimed at promoting physical and mental well-being.
Students and faculty at Punjab Agricultural University and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University celebrated the day. Early morning yoga sessions were also held at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital and Christian Medical College and Hospital to mark the day.

The Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU) and Women Entrepreneur Forum (WEF) celebrated the day with great enthusiasm and spirit. Heavenly Palace, a senior citizen home at Doraha, saw active participation from the occupants for yoga day
celebrations.
Officials of the Federal Bank’s branch in Khanna distributed coconut water to people during the yoga day celebration, emphasising the importance of hydration. A special yoga session was also organised at Lala Sarkaru Mal School Ground. The event saw participation from nearly 200 attendees, who were inspired to adopt a healthy lifestyle through yoga.
At Ahmedgarh, the main yoga session was held by Bhartiya Yog Sansthan at GHG Khalsa Senior Secondary School on the Chhapar road. Yoga sessions were held under CM’s Yoga Shalla programme at Municipal Park Ahmedgarh and Guru Nanak Ayurvedic College, Lehra, besides a district-level event at Dr Zakir Hussain Stadium in Malerkotla.
The day was celebrated at various schools and colleges, including Saraswati Senior Secondary School, Doraha; Guru Nanak National College, Doraha; Ramgarhia Girls College; SCD Government College; BCM College; Kamla Lohtia SD College; CT University; BCM Arya International School; Spring Dale Public School; Arya College Girls Section; Govind National College, Narangwal; Malwa Central College of Education; and the SAI training centre.
