US joins Israel’s Air campaign, bombs 3 nuclear sites in Iran, Donald Trump says, ‘Time for…’
New Delhi: In a major development, President Donald Trump on Saturday said that the US military struck three sites in Iran. With this, the US has directly joined Israel’s effort to decapitate the country’s nuclear program in a risky gambit to weaken a longtime foe amid Tehran’s threat of reprisals that could spark a wider regional conflict. It is important to note that there has been no immediate acknowledgment from Iran of any strikes being carried out.
Donald Trump Issues Statement
“We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan,” Trump wrote on social media Saturday. “All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow,” wrote Trump.
“All planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!” the president wrote.
The decision to directly involve the US in the war comes after more than a week of strikes by Israel on Iran that have moved to systematically eradicate the country’s air defenses and offensive missile capabilities, while damaging its nuclear enrichment facilities.
It also marks a major shift from less than 48 hours ago, when Trump said the United States would take “two weeks” to see if the conflict between Israel and Iran could be resolved diplomatically.
“Based on the fact that there’s a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks,” Trump said Thursday in a statement issued by the White House.
