'Sirens Sounding Across Israel': Iran Launches Fresh Missile Barrage Post US Airstrikes
Tensions in the Middle East have escalated sharply as Iran launched fresh missile strikes on Israel just hours after US forces joined Israel’s military offensive and destroyed three major Iranian nuclear sites.
On Sunday, Tehran fired 27 missiles in two waves targeting Haifa and Tel Aviv, injuring at least 11 people. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility, stating that Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv was also among the targets.
“Sirens sounding across Israel due to another Iranian missile launch,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed in a post on X.
US Strikes Obliterate Iran’s Nuclear Sites
Iran’s latest attacks came shortly after US President Donald Trump announced that American forces had bombed three crucial Iranian nuclear facilities — Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
A US official told Reuters that B-2 bombers carried out the strikes. In a televised address, Trump declared, “The strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated.”
Calling Iran the “bully of the Middle East,” the President added, “must now make peace. If they do not, future attacks will be far greater and a lot easier.”
Ongoing Escalation Since Friday
The fierce exchange of missile and drone attacks between Iran and Israel erupted last Friday when the Israeli military launched “Operation Rising Lion” and carried out strikes on Iranian cities. Israel claimed the offensive was necessary after concluding that Tehran was on the verge of developing a nuclear weapon.
Netanyahu Praises Trump’s “Bold Decision”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu applauded President Trump for the US airstrikes, calling it a historic move that would reshape the future.
“Congratulations, President Trump. Your bold decision to target Iran's nuclear facilities with the awesome and righteous might of the United States will change history,” Netanyahu said in a video address.
He continued, “In Operation Rising Lion, Israel has done truly amazing things, but in tonight's action against Iran's nuclear facilities, America has been unsurpassed — it has done what no other country on Earth could do. History will record that President Trump acted to deny the world's most dangerous regime — the world's most dangerous weapons.”
Netanyahu described Trump’s leadership as creating a “pivot of history that can help lead the Middle East and beyond to a future of prosperity and peace.” He concluded with, “God bless America. God bless Israel. May God bless our unshakeable alliance, our unbreakable faith.”
