On the Day 2 of the ongoing first Test between India and England Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant put on show behind the stumps even when England batters continued to score runs. The duo’s animated discussion with Ravindra Jadeja, captured on the stump mic has gone viral on social media.
In the viral video, wicketkeeper Pant put in a full-length dive to stop a ball from running away for leg byes after it narrowly missed Ben Duckett down the leg side., Pant gave a cheeky remark stating,“Mei bhi khel raha hu bhai! Apne chauke ke chakkar mei, mera chauka mat de dena!” (Even I am playing, brother! To avoid getting hit for a four, don’t end up sending me for one)
Shubman Gill, who was appointed a sthe new Test skipper also joined the fun. After Ravindra Jadeja bowled a teasing delivery that left the batter uncertain, Gill shouted from the slips “Abhi ye pura confused hai Jaddu bhai! Kaunsi seedhi hai, kaunsi udhar ayega uska! Abhi isko kuch pata nhi lag raha!” (Now he is totally confused, Jaddu bhai! Which one will go straight, which one will turn—he has no idea right now!)
India lose control on Day 2 despite centuries from Pant and Gill
Pant smashed 134 off 178 balls, hitting 12 fours and six sixes, and looked in complete control for most of his innings. He joined Shubman Gill (147) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (101) as the third Indian centurion in the innings. India had started the day strongly, with Gill and Pant helping the side go past 400 . However, things fell apart quickly after both set batters were dismissed in quick succession. After that, India lost seven wickets for just 41 runs to be eventually bowled out for 471.
England responded strongly to reach 209/3 at stumps, trailing by 262 runs. Ben Duckett provided a solid start, scoring 62 runs off 94 balls. Ollie Pope, who batted with fluency and confidence remained unbeaten on 100 off 131 balls. India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers, claiming all three wickets that fell, finishing the day with figures of 3/48 from 13 overs.
