What is a bunker buster bomb, as dangerous as a nuclear bomb, this 14,000-kilogram bomb penetrated Iran’s underground nuclear facilities with…
Iran-Israel war: In a significant development in the Iran-Israel war, the United States of America, led by Donald Trump likely deployed its most powerful non-nuclear weapon, the GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator, against Iran, taking the tensions between the two blocs to another level. Through the GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator, the US has reportedly tries to destroy Iran’s last untouched nuclear facility at Fordow. Here are all the details you need to know about and GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator and the B2 stealth bombers used for the bombings.
Nuclear sites in Iran destroyed?
As per a report by the New York Post, US President Donald Trump made an announcement saying that B-2 stealth bombers were used to attack three nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. Calling it a historic moment for the US, Israel and the world, the US used the Boeing-designed B-2 stealth bombers to attack the underground nuclear facility in Iran.
GBU-57A/B: Bunker busters
The GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator are among the most powerful conventional bombs in the US arsenal. The bombs are capable of penetrating up to 200 feet of earth or 60 feet of reinforced concrete, making them ideal for striking heavily fortified underground installations like Iran’s Fordow.
US deploys US B-2 stealth bombers
In a significant turn of event in the Israel-Iran conflict, several US B-2 stealth bombers took off from the Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri on June 21 and were seen heading West. As per a report by CNN, citing flight tracking data, the movement comes as US President Donald Trump considers military options on Iran amid the ongoing conflict.
However, a US defence official has rejected the update and said that no such official orders have been issued for the action. As of Saturday, the aircraft were flying over the Pacific Ocean and appeared to be en route to Guam, the CNN report added.
Why are B-2 stealth bombers dangerous
The B-2 bombers are uniquely equipped to carry the Massive Ordnance Penetrator — a 30,000-pound “bunker buster” bomb believed to be the only weapon capable of targeting Iran’s underground Fordow nuclear site. Each B-2 can carry two of these powerful bombs, a CNN reported by ANI said.
